Marcus Peters was somehow not ejected after throwing an officials' flag into the stands. Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters was called for a foul against the officials with almost two minutes remaining in Sunday's game against the New York Jets. Things got very interesting for the playoff committee, as expected, when Ohio State knocked off a previously undefeated Wisconsin team to win the Big Ten title on Saturday night. it wasn’t a rout like it was a few years ago, and it if was, maybe that would make this a lot easier. It’s not. My top two teams are close to each other but separated from everyone else. 1. Oklahoma: The Sooners blew out TCU in the second half as Baker Mayfield again was superb. Oklahoma now has four terrific wins: at Ohio State (and it wasn’t close), at Oklahoma State and twice against TCU. Plus, their loss was against a pretty good Iowa State team. 2. 1. We’re all winners when it comes to the new Alshon Jeffery contract. But in another more specific way, Alshon Jeffery is the winner, because he signed a piece of paper that says he’s now owed a lot of millions of dollars. The deal is four years, $52 million, with $27 million guaranteed, which is perfectly reasonable. It puts him right outside the deals signed by Julio Jones (5 years, $14.2 million average annual value, $35.5 guaranteed at signing), Demaryius Thomas (5, $14, $35), Dez Bryant (5, $14, $32) and A.J. Green (4, $15, $26.8) in the summer of 2015. It puts him a tier below DeAndre Hopkins’ recent deal (5, $16.2, $36.5) as well. Taggart sent a tweet that suggests he'll be recruiting players to Oregon for 2018.  Amid speculation linking Willie Taggart to the vacant Florida State job, the Oregon coach sent a tweet that suggested he'll return to the Ducks in 2018.  Oregon went 7-5 this season, Taggart's first at the helm of the program. He came to Eugene after four years as head coach at South Florida, where he went 24-25 but 10-1 in 2016.  The Florida State job opened up when Jimbo Fisher signed a record 10-year, $75 million deal to become the next head coach at Texas A&M, which fired Kevin Sumlin after the Aggies went 7-5 this season. After his team's 28-7 loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said he wants to return to Auburn amidst rumors linking him to the vacant Arkansas position.  "I want to be the head coach at Auburn," Malzahn said after he was asked about his plans for next season, per USAToday.com's George Schroeder . He was then asked if that means he  will  be back, to which he responded, "I want to be."  Malzahn played wide receiver for Arkansas for two seasons before he transferred to Henderson State and served as the wide receivers coach/offensive coordinator for the Razorbacks during the 2006 season.  Arkansas fired coach Bret Bielema after five seasons shortly after the team's season-ending 48-45 loss to Missouri. Bielema went 29-34 over his five seasons, including a 4-8 mark in 2017.  Malzahn is 45-21 in four seasons at Auburn.  Source link

Multiple controversial calls have gone against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game against Auburn.  Pick penalty nullifies touchdown, Georgia settles for field goal With the game tied 7-7 with just under six minutes left in the first half, Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm found Terry Godwin for what looked like a momentum-shifting touchdown. But an offensive pass interference penalty was called on Javon Wims and Georgia was pushed back to a third-and-goal at the 17. The Bulldogs would eventually settle for a field goal.  Godwin did make contact with two defenders and that contact did spring Godwin open, but it didn't look too egregious. A trio of New York Rangers players rode the NYC subway in full hockey gear en route to an outdoor practice on Saturday. Nebraska has chosen Scott Frost to replace Mike Riley. Nebraska is making preparations to formally hire Central Florida's Scott Frost as the Huskers' next head coach, reports Sports Illustrated' s Bruce Feldman According to Feldman, Nebraska's athletic director Bill Moos has been calling recruits and telling them Frost has 90% of his staff in place.  Frost led UCF to an 11–0 record on the season and an appearance in the American Athletic Conference championship game. Frost is in his second year with the Knights. Last year, he went 6–7 including a loss in the AutoNation Cure Bowl. Frost served as a graduate assistant at Nebraska in 2002. He played for the Huskers from 1995 to 1997 before an NFL career with the New york Jets, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
