Beyonce Slays at NBA Contest With Gucci Bag

Image
The action wasn’t all on the court at Los Angeles’ Staples Center Sunday night, where the hometown Clippers dueled with the Utah Jazz in a do-or-die NBA contest.  Beyonce also scored a lot of points for her Gucci backpack. The superstar singer was a hot talking point as she looked on courtside with Jay Z  and her fetching $1,790 bag at her feet. The piece is stamped with the "Modern Future" slogan that appears on a raft of Gucci goods from the most recent collection. It comes in two sizes (Beyonce appears to be carrying the larger version) and is available for preorder at Neiman Marcus. #NBAPlayoffs A post shared by Beyoncé (@beylite) on Apr 30, 2017 at 5:13pm PDT It’s not the first time Bey has won with Gucci at a ball game. The pregnant artist looked resplendent in a $22,000 Gucci Kimono as she watched the NBA All-Star Game in February with her family.  For the record, the Jazz move into round two of the NBA play-offs after eliminati...

Dodgers hit three straight homers during wild ninth-inning comeback

Image
Who could ever forget Sept. 18, 2006? That was the night the Los Angeles Dodgers hit four straight home runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the San Diego Padres, before defeating them one inning later on a Nomar Garciaparra walk-off homer. For a few moments on Saturday night, it looked like history was destined to repeat itself at Dodger Stadium. And perhaps you could say it was to an extent. This time, the Dodgers entered the ninth inning down by three runs. And this time, they received back-to-back-to-back home runs from Yasiel Puig, Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner to tie it up. [Sign up for Yahoo Fantasy Baseball: It’s not too late to get in the game] But this time, there would be no fourth homer. Instead, the Dodgers went with a more subdued finish, defeating the Phillies 6-5 in the ninth on an Adrian Gonzalez walk-off single that barely squirted through the infield. The Dodgers did the bulk of their damage against Hector Neris, who was recently insta...

See Shania Twain Perform New Song at Stagecoach

Image
Shania Twain debuted the new song "Life's About to Get Good" at the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio, California, during her Saturday night headlining set. A bouncy, empowering anthem with pointed lyrics inspired by Twain's own 2010 divorce from producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, the song was "therapy" the singer told the audience. "I wrote this very specific song about the good and bad in life and how important it is to have both. You have to take the good with the bad; no pain, no gain," Twain said onstage, before launching into some tell-all lyrics. " It killed me that you'd give your life to be with her / I had to believe that things would get better / it's time to forget you forever ," she sang, before taking her own advice in the chorus. " Life's about joy / life's about pain / it's all about giving up the will to walk away / I'm ready to be loved / loved the way I should / Life's about t...

Washington Wizards vs. Boston Celtics 2017 NBA playoffs second round Game 1 best and worst

(Winslow Townson/USA Today Sports) Here are the best and worst moments from the Wizards’ 123-111 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of their second-round series on Sunday. Worst dagger: Avery Bradley beat the shot clock with a three-pointer with 2:06 remaining, stole the ball from John Wall on Washington’s ensuing possession and fed Jae Crowder for an easy bucket that gave the Celtics a 14-point lead. The Wizards wouldn’t threaten again. Best point guard battle:  Wall finished with 20 points and 16 assists, though he also had eight turnovers. Boston’s Isaiah Thomas led all scorers with 33 points, including 31 in the first three quarters, to go along with nine assists. Worst injury:  The Wizards are hoping they didn’t lose more than a game on Sunday. Power forward Markieff Morris did not return after twisting his left ankle when he landed on Al Horford’s foot in the second quarter. *DON'T* look if you don't like ugly injuries. Morri...

Feist, Gorillaz & Sylvan Esso Ahead Of The Bunch In Albums Of The Week

Image
Thu, 27 Apr 2017 15:58:20 The world of new albums just became richer with the release of a range of very welcome material. Some of the artists who have dropped albums this week have each been been teasing fans with the promise of new tunes for so long that it seems like they have all landed at the same time in some mad conspiracy. Feist returns after five years away, Gorillaz finally deliver an album that felt like we were waiting on a comet to arrive. Sylvan Esso produce a sophomore album that answers the "What will they do next?" question that so many of us asked after their debut. Juliana Hatfield decided not to quit music but to sing about silly men with small fingers, and The Cranberries celebrate their career with a classy collection of their most famous songs. So here then, without further ado is the ARTISTdirect run down of our favorite albums of the week... Capitals running out of answers, time vs. Penguins

Washington Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen was asked what the mood was inside the locker room after their soul-crushing Game 2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night. “None of your business,” was the terse reply. Niskanen was asked what the veteran leaders, led by Nicklas Backstrom, said in a closed-door, players-only meeting following the loss. “None of your business,” he said. Oh, to have had an ear to the door on that meeting. What’s left to say? What can you say about the start? The Capitals played one of the most dominating periods any team has played in the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs. They outshot the Penguins, 16-5. They had 35 shot attempts to just eight for Pittsburgh. The Capitals talked about getting a lead, not chasing the game, after their Game 1 loss. They unloaded on the Penguins, Marc-Andre Fleury turned back 16 shots and the first period ended in a scoreless tie. Then Kevin Shattenkirk got outhustled by a 40 year old for a short...

Fyre Festival Organizer Says Day of Postponement Was Worst Day of His Life

Image
Fyre Festival Years from now, the failed 2017 Fyre Festival, put on by Ja Rule and Billy McFarland, will be a shining example of how exactly not to pull off a huge concert event. The whole thing went from promises of a luxury festival experience like no other, to simply being reduced to fodder for unyielding Internet meme makers. From the jump, nothing seemed to go as planned. Arraignments were unsatisfactory. Artists didn’t show up. And the entire event was postponed in what McFarland is calling, “the worst day of [his] life.” They 25-year-old tech entrepreneur recently spoke with Vice about the failed planning and execution of the festival. “We started the website to test the theory that people were interested and it went from there,” McFarland said. “All of the sudden we had thousands of guests and we started booking talent, and we had a festival on our hands. So we thought, oh wow, we have to go solve all the logistical problems.” He added,...

Samantha Bee's Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner: Talent Roasts Trump, Offers Sean Spicer Advice

Image
As if we needed another sign that we’re in a new presidential era, the A-listers -- not to mention President Trump himself -- were in short supply in D.C. on the night of the White House Correspondents' Dinner, a marked contrast to the Obama years. The scant Hollywood talent -- including Tegan and Sara, Max Weinberg, Padma Lakshmi from Top Chef , Matt Walsh from Veep  and Alysia Reiner from Orange Is the New Black  -- were across town at Samantha Bee’s free-press love fest, which the Full Frontal host dubbed the Not the White House Correspondents Dinner, and taped earlier in the afternoon for a 10 p.m. airing on TBS. Bee’s after-party was also the hot ticket, with Elvis Costello top-lining. Here’s the vibe from the Samantha Bee red carpet. Best 100-Day Report Card Samantha Bee: “ A-plus. And I couldn’t have said that with more sarcasm. I’d vastly prefer some predictability. I wish I was being bored by the a...

Watch White House Correspondents' Dinner With Hasan Minhaj

Image
"There's another big gathering taking place tonight in Washington D.C.," President Donald Trump told a crowd in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania early on Saturday night. "Did you hear about it? A large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media are consoling each other in a hotel ballroom in our nation's capital right now." The White House Correspondents' Dinner is the one night when the president gets to cut loose and shoot back at the reporters who take aim at him the other 364 days a year — in front of their celebrity friends, no less. Things will be a little different this time around, though. Daily Show correspondent Hasan Minhaj will host, the red carpet and scholarship portions of the evening will continue as planned, but Trump has sent his regrets to the 2017 "Nerd Prom," opting to hold a rally to celebrate the ...accomplishments...? of his first 100 days, to excoriate the media and his onetime opponent Hillary Clinton instead. Trump w...

Jake Butt finally drafted by Broncos, and made a lot of insurance money with draft fall

Image
Michigan tight end Jake Butt presumably would have rather gotten out of the Orange Bowl healthy and been drafted in the first couple rounds of the NFL draft. But in a year elite prospects Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey sat out bowl games to avoid injury, Butt played and tore his ACL. But at least he had an insurance policy to fall back on. The Denver Broncos finally took Butt with the first pick of the fifth round. Butt probably would have been a top-75 pick if healthy, perhaps a second-round pick with a small chance of sneaking into the first round. But with each pick that passed after the middle of the third round, Butt was making money. ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Darren Rovell reported that Butt made $543,000, tax free, due to his draft fall. He made about $10,000 for each pick that passed without him being selected, ESPN said, starting in the middle of the third round. The maximum of that loss-of-value insurance policy was $2 million. Butt was smart to take out some i...

Strange Music, Inc "A Cross Between a Caveman & Wreck-it Ralph": Wrekonize Talks "Knuckle Dragging" Origin & Inspiration

Image
Wrekonize’s upcoming solo album,  Into The Further is a follow-up to 2013’s The War Within , sequentially (you know, because it’s coming after ) but thematically as well.  Into The Further , picks up where  The War Within‘s  therapy session left off and takes us  further into the psyche of Wrekonize. Still, there’s one more way The War Within  carries over to Into The Further … “Knuckle Dragging.” Though the newest song off  Into The Further , released just a hours ago, “Knuckle Dragging,” is actually an old song. In fact, it’s origins pre-date the release of  Into The Further . Confused? Who better to explain than Wrekonize? How did “Knuckle Dragging” come about? I actually wrote this song when I was working on The War Within so I’ve had it for about 4 years. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if the storytelling direction was the best route to go. Sometimes sto...

Goldfrapp, Tinashe, & Father John Misty Entertain In Top Music Videos Of The Week- April 28 @ARTISTdirect

Image
Thu, 27 Apr 2017 17:45:25 What a wonderful week it was when it came to new music videos. The light may have been on Southern California for the last two weeks, and for good reason, but now things are shifting back to a more global perspective. Rostam certainly shined the glow onto New York City with his new video for "Gwan". Father John Misty, however, was more interested in taking us into an entire different reality with "Total Entertainment Forever". Goldfrapp preferred to have her dancers grasp for the light in her directorial debut, which is dark and edgy as the "Systemagic" track is itself. Jeremih joined up with Chris Brown and Big Sean took us out on the street where each try their hand and picking up a girl walking down the street. And that was only the beginning for a week filled with stunning new eye candy. Here are our favorites: Goldfrapp — "Systemagic" In Goldfrapp's video for Systemagic directed by none other than Alison G...
