Chief Keef, Pharrell, The-Dream Featured on New Vic Mensa Album

Image
Johnny Nunez/Frazer Harrison/Jason Merritt/Jamie McCarthy, Getty Images (4) Vic Mensa‘s album is coming this summer, and when it arrives, fans will be able to listen to the Chicago artist collab with the likes of Chief Keef, Pharrell and The-Dream. Fake Shore Drive’s Andrew Barber confirmed as much in a series of tweets earlier today (May 31). He’s heard Vic’s new project, and apparently, he’s very impressed. “It’s Vic’s BEST work to date. Better than INNANETAPE ,” Barber says of the Roc Nation MC’s new project. “It’s an open book & he even brings that old Roc sound back. No ID is the exec producer.” In another tweet Barber claimed Vic’s latest project will be in contention for album of the year before adding Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, Joey Purp and Pharrell to the list of people Vic’s collaborated with for the project. Needless to say, that sounds insanely dope. If by “old Roc sound...

Penguins chase Pekka Rinne, take Game 2 for 2-0 series lead

Image
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins chased Pekka Rinne and dominated the Nashville Predators in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, 4-1, to take a 2-0 series lead. Rookie Jake Guentzel scored twice, as the Penguins reversed a lackluster offensive effort in Game 1 – in which they were held without a shot for the entire second period – with a barrage at home on Wednesday night. With 12 goals, Guentzel is now second all-time in goals by a rookie in a single postseason, two back of Dino Ciccarelli’s 14 in 1981. Rinne was pulled 3 minutes and 28 seconds into the third period after the Penguins’ fourth goal. Arguably the favorite for playoff MVP entering the Final, Rinne has given up eight goals on 36 shots in two games – that’s a .778 save percentage in the Stanley Cup Final. Matt Murray, meanwhile, was a steadying presence for Pittsburgh in making 37 saves. The first period of Game 2 will be remembered for being one of the poorest officiated 20 m...

Liam Gallagher Returns to Form with 'Wall of Glass' Single & Video: Watch

Image
Look, I’m all for taking the stuffing out of a Gallagher brother as often as they require it, but how great is it to have Liam Gallagher back? His brand-new single “Wall of Glass” is the worthy, if long delayed, solo debut from the former Oasis co-frontman, who’s -- well, “languished in obscurity” would be a grave injustice to his Twitter feed -- certainly not enjoyed the same success as his brother’s outfit in recent years. ( Beady Eye , Liam’s band with the other former Oasis members, dissolved in 2014.) “Wall of Glass” skews more pop than the foggier corners of the Oasis catalog, owing in part to a co-write from Greg Kurstin , producer of adult-pop megabits for Adele . If the first single is anything to go by, Kurstin has successfully grokked the Gallagher ethos, while leaving Liam enough room to swagger. “Wall of Glass” sounds f***ing massive, and Gallagher sounds just about as good as he ever has. That voice...

Glen Campbell's Daughter Gives Alzheimer's Update

Image
Currently in the late stages of Alzheimer's disease, country legend Glen Campell will release his final studio album on June 9th. Titled Adiós , the project is a heartbreaking yet uplifting collection of Campbell's favorite songs, most of which he had never before recorded. During an interview about the new album, Campbell's daughter Ashley Campbell, with whom he shared the stage during his 2012-2013 Goodbye Tour, said the Country Music Hall of Fame member has been transferred to professional care. "My dad is currently living in a beautiful memory care facility, and he is in the late stages of Alzheimer's," Ashley says. "He has aphasia, so he can't really communicate, he can't really understand language as we do. I kind of look at it like he can't really receive information. He hears just fine – he doesn't need a hearing aid – he just has trouble processing what he hears." Offering that Campbell enjoys visits from family and frie...

Zach Lowe's 2017 NBA Finals preview, prediction for Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

Image
We got here, through meaningless first-round series and embarrassing blowouts and the lamest conference finals ever, and now a lot of people are telling us the hyped endgame will be anticlimactic. Our own Basketball Power Index gives Golden State, a 67-win super-team that could have sniffed 73 again had it wanted, a 93 percent chance of avenging last season's humiliation. The same system says Golden State has a 64 percent chance of stomping the Cavs in four or five games. The esteemed Kevin Pelton went so far as to calculate the Warriors' odds of completing the first undefeated 16-game postseason in modern NBA history. The Cavs are 12-1 in the playoffs with a point differential nearly equal to Golden State's all-time-best figure, and an offense scoring at a ludicrous rate that looks like a typo. As Pelton notes, they compiled that dossier against competition only slightly worse than Golden State's Glass Joes once you consider injuries. I don't care about the particu...

Lonzo Ball to work out for Lakers on June 7

Image
Lonzo Ball will work out for the Los Angeles Lakers on June 7, the first step toward possibly becoming the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft, league sources told The Vertical. Ball, 19, has scheduled his visit with his hometown team to meet with the front office and coaches and participate in an individual workout. Ball had always planned to conduct only a private individual workout because of his success in his lone season at UCLA and never considered a one-on-one workout against another top prospect, league sources said. Lonzo Ball averaged 14.6 points, 7.7 assists, 6.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 33 regular-season games for UCLA. (AP) More The Lakers’ front office worked with Ball’s agent, Harrison Gaines, to finalize the workout details. The Lakers are the only predraft workout scheduled for Ball as of now, but he could add one or two meetings with teams near the top of the draft, league sources said. Ball led the Bruins to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament and h...

T.I. and Kevin Hart Working on New Comedy Series ‘The Studio’

Image
Matthew Eisman, Getty Images It looks like T.I. and Kevin Hart are collaborating once again. According to Deadline, the two are developing a new “music-themed office comedy” for Showtime. The series will be called  The Studio . The new show, which is being written by  Everybody Hates Chris  scribe Aeysha Carr, will explore the day-to-day work lives of folks who make a living in the recording studio. Tip and Hart, who appeared together in 2015’s  Get Hard , are executive-producing the series and are expected to make occasional special guest appearances at different points of the new series. Sounds dope. This news arrives just a few days after the series finale of Tip’s  T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle , so it’s definitely a comforting bit for fans of the Atlanta rapper. The fact that he’s linking with Hart is also good to hear. Tip and Hart were hilarious together whenever they crossed the screen in  Get H...

Sony/ATV, Lyric Financial Partner For 'Virtual ATM' to Allow Songwriters Access to Royalty Advances

Image
The vATM allows songwriters to tap into their current and forecasted catalog earnings 'in less than a minute.' Two weeks after announcing Sony/ATV Music Publishing would update its royalty portal to give its songwriters access to real-time data about their earnings, the world's largest music publisher is once again adding more tools to its royalty structure. Today, the company announced a new partnership with financial services/tech company Lyric Financial to incorporate the latter's virtual ATM platform into the Sony/ATV portal, which allows songwriters and publishers to request advances on their earnings directly through the SCORE system. Lyric Financial, founded in 2007 by CEO Eli Ball , developed the virtual ATM to allow creators to monitor and withdraw current and projected royalties almost instantly, and does not take any rights from the songwriter, a press release accompanying the announcement states. Instead, the company charges a fee and would recoup that amoun...

Albert Pujols hits home run No. 599, sits on the brink of history

Image
There’s a bit of baseball history that will be made soon and it almost feels like nobody is talking about it. It doesn’t involve Bryce Harper or the unwritten rules or a divisive controversy, so Albert Pujols’ pursuit of 600 homers actually feels like it’s happening a bit under the radar. As under the radar as joining the 600 Home Run Club can happen, anyway. [Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball contest now] Pujols hit homer No. 599 on Tuesday night in the Los Angeles Angels’ 9-3 win over the Atlanta Braves. It was a three-run homer that came off Bartolo Colon in the third inning and put the Angels up 3-2. Albert Pujols celebrates homer No. 599. (AP) More Pujols had a few more chances to swing for 600, as he came to bat three more times in the game. It didn’t happen and, thus, Pujols sits on the brink of joining a very elite group in baseball history. The 600 Homer Club includes eight other legends and that’s it. • Barry Bonds (762) ...
