J.J. Watt helps raise more than $2 million for Houston

Image
J.J. Watt started with a goal of raising $200,000 for Houston in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. He must have had no idea the impact his plea would have on fans. Two days after first asking for donations, people had given more than $3.25 million. “It’s unbelievable,” Watt said on “Good Morning America.” “The biggest part of it all is being able to see the power of what can happen when people come together.” Once the contributions reached $200,000 in less than two hours, Watt said the new goal was $500,000. That came in less than 24 hours. Then the goal was $1 million. And $1.5 million. It just kept growing, and on Tuesday evening Watt said he is hoping to reach $4 million. UPDATE:  Just a few hours later, donations passed $4 million and Watt posted a new video with a new goal. When Watt asks, people apparently listen. To contribute, the site is YouCaring.com/JJWatt. Strange Music, Inc Interview: What's a ¡MAYDAY! Studio Session Like? Ask Llamabeats

Image
With the magic of the internet, everything from dinner dates, to pictures of cats, to Game Of Thrones spoilers are available in a matter of seconds with just a few clicks (or swipes). Music is the same too; not just finding it, but creating it. Though there is no substitute for the magic of a live-an-in-person studio session, the internet has made it possible for artists and producers who, otherwise, wouldn’t be able to collaborate to do just that. It’s not an either or though. In some cases, as with Llamabeats and ¡MAYDAY!’s collaborations, great tracks can come from both. In honor of Search Party– and the three cuts the Miami duo helped create (including “Do”)–we talked with one half of Llamabeats, George Spits, about the studio sessions with ¡MAYDAY!, and, as it turns out, they spawned from sending beats. Before we get to Search Party , I understand y’all did some work on Wrek’s Into The Further . I did “F...

Throughout the project, actor Michael Shannon will also deliver speeches written by writer/critic Luc Sente. The film is set to premiere October 2nd at the NYFF, and tickets for the debut go on sale from September 10th. Washington Nationals 8. Miami Marlins 3

WASHINGTON (AP) — Giancarlo Stanton tied a major league record with his 18th home run in August, but Anthony Rendon had four RBIs and the Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 8-3 on Tuesday night. Stanton hit a long homer in the first inning, his 51st this season, to open the scoring following a 26-minute rain delay. His August output matched the mark set by Rudy York with the Detroit Tigers in 1937. Sammy Sosa set the record for homers in a month when he hit 20 in June 1998, and Stanton has two games left this month to catch the former Cubs slugger. Stanton added an RBI with a deep sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Rendon’s three-run double in the seventh came after Washington’s bullpen thwarted a rally earlier in the inning. Daniel Murphy also had a two-run single. Nationals starter Edwin Jackson (5-3) allowed three runs — two earned — and six hits over six innings plus four batters. Washington shortstop Trea Turner went 1 for 4 with a d...

Image
Cinematic Music Group Mick Jenkins drops off his first song in a minute with the THEMPeople-produced song “A Layover.” The song sounds like it’s dripped in molasses as Jenkins bars cut over the sparse beat. The soulful song is an update of sort for fans that missed the enigmatic Chicago rapper. “First class got em looking’ like who this motherfucker,” spits Jenkins as he uses his travels through the airport as a metaphor of sorts for his career. Mick Jenkins has always been ahead of his time, and as the song closes he makes sure listeners, fans, and other rappers know. “We seven hours ahead nigga, all y’all late,” spits Mick. Mick’s been relatively quiet in 2017 after having an eventful 2016. In March, he dropped a collab with the DMV’s Goldlink called “Pressed For Time (Cross My Mind),” which was also co-produced by THEMPeople. Mick dropped his last full-length project, The Healing C...

'Overwatch' Deathmatch Now Live in Overwatch Arcade

Image
Overwatch's Deathmatch game mode is now live in the Overwatch Arcade, developer Blizzard announced today. Deathmatch in Overwatch works as you may expect, each player or team fends for themselves in an effort to both be the last standing and the player or team with the most kills. Overwatch's Deathmatch update will bring with it two modes: Free-For-All and Team Deathmatch. Free-For-All pits seven players against each other all racing to be the first to 20 kills, while Team Deathmatch pits two teams of six against each other in an effort to be the first to 30 kills. In the latter mode, Mercy resurrections will take away from the team's kill count.  Additionally, Blizzard will be adapting the game's maps to facilitate deathmatch modes, and it's added a new map, Chateau Guillard, for Free-For-All. Overwatch was released on May 24th, 2016 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC to critical and commercial success. Since its release, Blizzard's reported the g...

David Wright ends Mets rehab stint after three games

New York Mets third baseman David Wright has ended his rehab attempt after just three games. The team announced Monday that Wright has been shut down, and will undergo a medical evaluation in New York. The news is, sadly, not surprising considering everything Wright has been through since 2015. Wright has attempted to make a number of comebacks after being diagnosed with spinal stenosis during that season. He managed to play 37 games in 2016, but was limited by a slipped disc in his back. He’s battled shoulder issues during spring training in 2017. [ Now’s the time to sign up for Fantasy Football! Join for free ] Considering the lack of news regarding Wright in recent months, it was a major surprise when the club announced he would play in minor-league games this season. Wright made his return Aug. 22, as the designated hitter for the St. Lucie Mets. He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Three days later, he got the start at third base, going 1-for-3 with a single. ...

Lady Gaga Becomes First Female Performer To Headline Chicago's Wrigley Field @ARTISTdirect

Image
Mon, 28 Aug 2017 11:50:05 On Friday night, Lady Gaga brought her Joanne World Tour to Chicago's Wrigley Field. In doing so, Gaga became the first ever female performer to headline the world-famous ballpark. To be fair, Wrigley Field has only been hosting music acts for the last 12 years of its long and storied existence, but still, that is way too long to go without a female headliner. Previous musical acts have included included Pearl Jam, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and Green Day, so it's not as if the size of the venue was ever an issue. Regardless of the history, Gaga made her performance worth the wait on Friday night, putting on an epic two-hour show featuring cuts from all her albums. She paused to acknowledge the moment before performing Born This Way 's "Scheiße", telling the sell-out crowd, "Somebody told me tonight that I had the great honor of being the first woman ever to headline Wrigley Field. I feel so proud to stand here with so ...

Stafford, Lions agree to $135 million extension

DETROIT (AP) — Matthew Stafford has made a home in the Motor City, leading the Detroit Lions on the field and becoming a first-time father with twin girls earlier this year. “Aggressive start,” Stafford recently cracked. The Lions, likewise, made an aggressive move to keep their franchise quarterback around for many more years with the richest contract in NFL history. Stafford agreed to a $135 million extension, according to a person familiar with the deal. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because financial terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team announced the five-year deal keeps Stafford under contract through the 2022 season. The 29-year-old was entering the last year of his $53 million, three-year deal. Stafford stood to get quite a raise and did, getting more than the $125 million, five-year contract the Oakland Raiders gave Derek Carr this summer. Stafford recently said he hadn’t decided whether he woul...
