Back in March, former Pavement founding member Scott Kannberg dropped his first solo album, Doris and the Diggers, as Spiral Stairs. It featured a variety of who's who in the indie rock world, including Matt Berninger of The National, Kevin Drew and Justin Peroff of Broken Social Scene, Kelley Stoltz, and Adam Wade of Shudder To Think. He is currently on tour in Europe and took some time out to do an interview Italy's Radio Città del Capo.
During the talk Kannberg was asked about his old band Pavement and the possibility of a reunion. He responded, "We haven't really discussed it, but there has been some talk about our 30th anniversary in 2019 [and] maybe doing some stuff. Stay tuned!"
Pavement reunited back in 2010 and played a variety of concerts, but unlike many other bands stuck to it being a single tour with Stephen Malkmus explaining, "No, we're sticking to our guns and what we promised, even though it has been fun. Anyone who bought a ticket to see us, I don't want them to have paid these slightly higher prices to see us and then have us right back there again—it's just disingenuous. And we want to keep it fun."
There is still no word on any officially reunion and it seems unlikely that they'll release any new music ever. Back in 2010, Bob Nastanovich explained, "Stephen does not write songs for Pavement anymore, or songs in the Pavement mindset."
Despite that, it seems like there could be another Pavement reunion on the horizon, and we are certainly hoping so.
