Prophets Of Rage, Odesza, & MGMT Deliver Strength In Top Music Videos Of The Week - October 20 -

This week, a diverse set of new videos hit screens worldwide. From controversial political clips to warm family numbers to cuts meant to engage a variety of senses, the music videos that debuted over the last seven days found artists exploring a variety of thoughts, feelings, and sensations.

Prophets of Rage showed their solidarity with Colin Kaepernick and other recent protests in their newest clip. Odesza unveiled the video for their single with Leon Bridges, celebrating the warmth of mid-century family life. Beck, meanwhile, used viral footage to explore how sounds, visuals, and touch could work together.

Ela Minus played with a visual synthesizer in her new clip. MGMT went goth in the video for their first new music in four years. And that was only the beginning for a week filled with eye-catching new videos. So without further ado, here are ARTISTdirect's top music videos of the week:

Prophets of Rage — "Strength in Numbers"

This week, Prophets of Rage threw their hand up in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick and the countless athletes who have protested racial inequity in today's America. Their newest video for the track "Strength In Numbers" certainly hits the nail on the head. In it, racist images throughout history are intercut with images of recent political protests and swarms of insects, fish, and wildlife performing acts that would be individually impossible. Within the flurry, highlights include clips of chain gangs, Mickey Mouse, live footage of gun shows and gun owners, as well as the use of blackface.

In a statement alongside the video's release, Chuck D asks, "ALMOST anything can be built or toppled with a collective force. A movement is never about an individual. On the opposition of Colin Kaepernick in today's sports world, we ask 'is it the KNEE or is it The NEGRO?'"

ODESZA — "Across the Room" [ft. Leon Bridges]

Back in September, Odesza dropped their third studio album, A Moment Apart. It was a smashing success, and climbed all the way to number three on the Billboard 200. This week they released the video for one of our favorite tracks from the record, "Across the Room" featuring Leon Bridges. The clip was directed by Ian Schwartz and depicts a warm family that seems to come straight out of the mid-20th Century. It's uplifting, beautiful, and certain to quickly worm its way into your heart.

Ela Minus — "A.R.P."

Earlier this year, Ela Minus released her stunning new Adapt. EP, and now she has made a video for the beautiful "A.R.P.", filmed in one take using Critter & Guitari's video synthesizer, ETC. She said about her use of the synthesizer for the video, "I love the ETC and since the first time I played with it I wanted to make a video specifically for this song. Recently I've been wanting to incorporate the improvisational aspect of my live shows to everything I do, so I had the idea to just create an aesthetically interesting set, that included an old TV, choose a couple of stems out of the song to run them through the ETC and just film that."

MGMT — "Little Dark Age"

Earlier this week, MGMT released the title track for their forthcoming album Little Dark Age, along with a creepy video directed by Nathaniel Axel & David MacNutt. The surprisingly low-key track from the band who brought us "Kids" and "Electric Feel" features somber vocals over low synth rhythms, while the accompanying clip is chock full of goth and punk costumes, dramatic staring, and maybe a haunted house. It's the first new music from the band in four years, and we couldn't be more excited for their return.

Beck — "Colors"

Beck's new album, Colors, came out just last week, and with its release he shared the video for the LP's title track. In the clip, the artist pairs his new music with the autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) viral trend, which shows people digging their hands into colorful substances. It's a vibrant experience for sure and one that investigates how auditory and visual elements can interact with other senses. The video is an ideal creation for those looking for a synesthetic experience while listening to new tunes.
